why i rejected other songs.

the first song i was going to use was "too many men" its a club song consisting of uk grime artist and it's narrative is about being in a club and there's no girls just guys.
i rejected this idea because firstly, i wasn't allowed to film in a club and secondly because depending on so many people for filming is very risky when you have a deadline.

the second song i chose was kate nash - mouthwash, i was going to have a performance based video but these can be very boring and slack if not done correctly and finding a good setting would've been quite difficult so i rejected that idea.

I was also going to use block party -  flux, though it is a very good song, and would've had a wicked abstract video, not as many idea's came to mind as when i listened to my chosen song.

why i chose this song.

Jamie T is a great artist who appeals to all sorts of stereotypes from 'chav' to 'indie'.
i chose his song "sticks and stones" because the music he presents is UK street, and therefore the video would be more suiting seeing as i don't have a budget i couldn't have chose something well known and in the chart.
When i chose this song the video was only accessible on the internet but now it has been released.
The song is very lively, boyish and has a great narrative and there's so many idea's that come to mind when i hear it.
i specifically chose this song because each time i listen to it my idea's for the music video progress and develop and it stems my creativity.

Song lyrics

Jamie t.
"Sticks and stones"

when there's no one left to fight
boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as i see the dust settle
he's out on the town trying to find trouble.
When there's no one left to fight
boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as i see the dust settle
he's out on the town trying to find trouble.

I take a train again away from shame
and blame a city pained to see
a friend i havent seen since i was drinking underage
i was a ten a day how'd you say little s***
white lightening, heightening all my courage, quick wit.
We wore checkered season wallabies
buttoned shirts and whiskey
mutton dressed as lamb a fan of bands
like the jam jam jam jam,
i don't know who i am, he said i dunno if i can
i said yeah man, you can-can.

when there's no one left to fight
boys like him don't shine so bright,
soon as i see the dust settle
he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.
when theres no one left to fight
boys like him don't shine so bright
soon as i see the dust settle
he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.

drunk and being sick, i feel like s***
i gotta quit i hope i haven't missed the last train
gonna be stuck in hampton wick,
with the boys across the platform
shouting "lightweight prick!"
i'm a featherweight champion cheap to get pissed
wish candy were here with me, she'd deffa deal with it,
tell 'em all to shut their mouths and go suck their momma's d***'s
cos' she ain't no she ain't that low, three fingers down,
or the other two up, and i'll sing this proud.

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks 'n' stones, sticks 'n' stones
i take 'em home on my own.

runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones
i take 'em home on my own

As i travel down the tracks all my memories flood back
we were runnin' at ease from enemies
and rushed back to your momma's flat,
it's the only place but home i feel relaxed enough to crap
i know it sounds crude but theres something in that
how's danny doin? hear he's high flying and that
stockbroker in the city with a lady and a baby
and fee, is she free from the demons she had
was it two months clean, routine to relapse.

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones
i take 'em home on my own.
Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones
i take 'em home on my own.

she smoked all of your weed
thats why the loved ones out to leave
why when you take the lead they stab you in the back
'til you can't breathe, when you're bleeding on the floor
and no one hears your call at all
she screamed out to the party
you are sheeps and cattle

I was hanging out with louie in the shooting gallery
when the news got through to me about you and jeremy
pat on my back and a  swig of my brew
your still my friend its impossible to hate you.
cradle to the grave, i know we always misbehave
people latch down and then they rain on our parade
girls we love leave when we want them to stay
like today, remember, what shall we say ?

when there's no one left to fight
boys like him dont shine so bright
soon as i see the dust settle
lets go out and find some trouble!

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones,
i take 'em home on my own.

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones,
i take 'em home on my own.

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones,
i take 'em home on my own.

Runnin' with believers, go time for fever
and i haven't got time for you either
with your sticks and stones, sticks and stones
i take 'em home on my own.

Treatment (submission of ideas)

I've had a million and one ideas buzzing around in my head. lots have come and gone.

I've wrote my proposal for my media video,
the end result may not follow exactly what i had planned but then i'll explain why i dismissed one or two ideas, and why i thought that would make it work well better.

So,

PROPOSAL FOR MEDIA VIDEO :

i plan to create a narrative/abstract/concept based video. The music ( jamie t - sticks and stones ) is lively, fast paced so i'll make the video livley and face paced to go with the beat.

The lyrics denote young boys on night on nights out, having fun wuth alcohol and narcotics, getting into fights and dating untrustworthy girls. Because of thid my camera shots and angles will be very diverse and shaky to portray what the protagonist see's.

I'm using the idea of what people think of themselves and then what people around them really see so when there's arguments, or their attempting to talk to girls we'll use point of view shots from the protagonist, and then using point of view shots from the person their interacting with, or the point of view for the audience and i'd have them dressed like a clown or spiderman, something abstract.

Firstly, there'll be a close up of the protagonist with a can af stella and cigarette, he will be wearing a hoody and jogging bottoms making him stereotypical a social miscreant which goes along ith the idea of drinking, smoking and fighting.

The shot will move then move towards the protagonist during an argument with a group of young boys similarly dressed to himself then as the beat drops, the protagonist will throw a punch and the front man of the young men and run of with a point of view shot showing the protagonist running.

Between shots there will be shots of location, london city as that is where the artist is from and refers to it in the song "amsteadwick" and "the city". i will use the shots of london to make the audience believe it is shot in london when infact its shot in nottingham.

I'll then show the protagonist drunk with friends at a train station messing around in a boyish manner, i.e play fighting and "checking out" girls.

when the chorus plays, there will be smoke in the background connoting destrction and the protagonist and a gang of friends throwing "sticks & stones" at plexi glass, making it seem they are being thrown towards he viewer invovling them in a negative way so that they can go along with the idea of them being clowns, idiots.

in the next chorus there will be running, boys play fighting and again, sticks and stones being thrown. The protagonist will lip sync conforming to a stereotypical pop video.

Towards the end the protagonist explain the toll his life has taken on his relationship with friends and partners and is having a moment of realization. This part is personal to the protagonist and him kinda thinking he needs to sort his life out so the camera will be steady, front on and the protagonist will be lip syncing.

At the end of the song the chorus is repeated and it will begin returning to fun, crazy behaviour and then slow out to the starting shot of the protagonist showing that even after his moment of realization showing that boys will be boys.

Generally, overall, my music video will be very fun, lively with diverse camera shots and angles. it will demonstrte the life the protagonist and how he feels about it, then society's views of his life and what they think.

unfortunately, due to the weather conditions i may have to adjust my video and my idea's so that i can film soon as the weather is extremely unpredictable.

Film Schedule.

school isn't really the best place for filming and right now the weather isn't ideal but if it doesn't perk up soon i'm just gonna have to go ahead and start filming regardless.

i need to make sure that the day's i choose will be good for my friends that are involved in the filming aswell and trying to find a time thats good for everyone is a bit hectic,
everyones out on a friday night but then the Lighting is not so good so i need to find a time that'll suit everyone.

with all the snow and bad weather i've been unable to find a good day to film, as my music video is all going to be filmed out side, another problem I'm faced with is that by the time i get home from school it's already going to get dark, so i may have to rethink my video idea.

i've filmed and i have loaded it onto imovies, i've still got to perfect it and i think that it'll only be my rough copy. i need to redo a few bits as it seems a little tooo dark for the genre.

trying to find people who would help me, be reliable and sensible was the hardest task i've faced during this production. by increasing my use of props it has made my production appear more creative and sophisticated.

Media workings.

All of this needs to include:
- Film schedule
- Mood board
- Shots of possible settings and locations
- Contact made to my band
- Analysis of music videos
- Analysis of director
- See clips, rough cuts of videos
- Audience feed back
- Treatment (submission of ideas)
- Why i rejected other song
- Why i chose this song
